Bringing congregations and communities together
Events
Ways that local church congregations can link more effectively with their local communities will be one of the topics covered at a conference in Adelaide in October.
The ‘Regenerating Places of Faith’ event will explore the possibilities and potential opportunities available for change – in both the ways congregations operate and through adaption of South Australia’s church buildings to better serve their communities beyond their spiritual needs.
“Nowadays, when we look for our buildings to be open and full of light we are suspicious of those who gather together behind high windows. With some creative thinking, though, our historic places of worship are eminently adaptable to our modern aspirations and expectations, as is being demonstrated with many church buildings in the UK, Canada, USA and elsewhere,” conference organisers explain.
“Church congregations and their buildings have always played a key role by helping local communities beyond their spiritual needs. With foresight and creativity, they can step up once again to help repair the damage wrought by modern living.”
Regenerating Places of Faith will be held on Saturday October 27 at the Burnside City Uniting Church. For more information contact Keith Maynard at maynardk@bigpond.net.au or 8331 9379.
