Greeting to Spirit at Lockleys

The beginning of school year liturgy at St Francis School, Lockleys, began with Indigenous artist and cultural custodian Karl Telfer leading students in a Greeting to Spirit of Place.
Karl (pictured above) has been part of the school community for nearly 10 years and has played an important role in promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories.
The school is committed to building relationships with local First Nations peoples and communities to enhance equality, equity, dignity and respect. It does this by educating students and community about the significant contributions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have made and continue to make to Australian society.
Principal Phil Schultz said the Liturgy reflected the vision and mission of St Francis school – ‘Growing in Faith Peace and Wisdom’.
“It emphasised our call to bring God’s hope to others, to show them a generous hand and a kind heart and to build a school community where everyone feels valued and welcomed,” Mr Schultz said.
