Blessing of new memorial garden
Schools
All Souls Day at St Francis Xavier Regional Catholic School had extra significance this year as it marked the opening of the community’s relocated Memorial Garden.
The Memorial Garden has been a significant sacred space for the Wynn Vale school community for decades but had to be relocated due to a new classroom build.
The whole school gathered on November 2 to remember those in the St Francis community who had passed.
Fr Joshua Nash celebrated the Mass and blessed the new garden. Students then took the opportunity to write the names of family members who have passed on pebbles and these were placed in the garden.
Principal Jason Mittiga said the garden was a “cherished space” for all in the school community. He paid tribute to groundsmen Tony Thacker and Colin Amos, APRIM Rosanna Samarzia and the school’s sustainability committee who had all worked on developing the new memorial garden.
