Music festival celebrates 30th performance
Schools
More than 2000 students from 83 Catholic schools are preparing for their moment on stage at the annual Catholic Schools Music Festival next month.
Concerts will be held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre over four nights from Monday September 10 to Thursday September 13. They will feature a 400-strong choir, instrumental ensembles, vocal groups and solo artists.
This year is significant in the history of the festival as it celebrates its 30th annual performance.
Founded by Sr Colleen Roberts RSJ, the first performance was held in St Peter’s College Memorial Hall on August 16 1989. On that occasion, 16 schools participated in the festival choir and five support acts performed. The following year it moved to the Adelaide Festival Theatre and in 1991 was performed over two nights. In 1998 this was extended to three nights and then to four nights since 2001.
