Inspiring others through adversity
Obituaries
Franco Zardo - Born: October 22 1969; Died: November 23 2024

Francesco Antonio Zardo was born to Angelo (deceased) and Nicolina Zardo, and brother to Peter and Rosa (deceased).
His life was impacted by cystic fibrosis which led to him having a double lung transplant in October 2000. This gave him a new lease of life, enabling him to travel extensively in Europe, including Italy and Malta.
Following the transplant, Franco commented that when someone carries a significant burden in life, they survive within a network which can be family or Church.

A happy disposition was one of the qualities that he possessed; especially in adversity. People were inspired, and rejoiced with him. He had a good word for everyone and was known as a no-nonsense Italian coffee lover.
Franco was a part of the cystic fibrosis community, providing much support where he could. In this, he was ever aware of what was impacting other people’s lives. He made many friends in this group, visiting people in hospital and interstate.
At the age of five, Franco attended the Society of Christian Doctrine, also known as the Preca Community. He became a committed member, entering fully into its lifestyle. Here he experienced the joy of companionship. He was inspired to live a simple and holy life.
Franco was a proficient soccer player. He enjoyed long bike rides along the coastal areas of Adelaide in the fresh air. He also loved going on camps and driving interstate for meetings and retreats.
At Preca and in parish life, Franco met Jesus in everyone who came his way, in scripture, and in the spirituality of St George Preca. He held that Christ is known and present in others. His favourite parable was the prodigal son. It tells of God’s unfailing love even to those who reject God.

Franco also met Jesus in the sacrament of Holy Communion. He met God in communal prayer and enjoyed being in the presence of the Lord in silent meditation.
In spite of ill health, earlier in life Franco graduated in accountancy and worked diligently in this field, with very supportive employers.
With his passing into God’s care we have lost a good and faithful servant. We often reflect on his patient example as his health changed. We rejoice in his life and give thanks to God for this.
May peace go with you Franco.
