John McGeever, affectionately known as ‘Skeet,’ was deeply ingrained in the St Joseph’s School Port Lincoln community.

His journey with St Joseph’s began in 1935 as a student and continued through his roles as a parent and grandparent. Until his death at the age of 94, Skeet was one of the school’s oldest living alumni.

Skeet’s legacy at St Joseph’s extended beyond himself; his eight children and some of his grandchildren followed in his footsteps, with one granddaughter currently completing her final year at the school.

Remarkably, Skeet’s connection to St Joseph’s spans four generations, with his mother, Mary Miller, also a student there many years ago.

Skeet’s dedication and commitment to the school and the St Mary of the Angels parish were exemplary. He had a passion for sports, often coaching and assisting at sports days, and he was always ready to lend a hand and organise working bees or cook a barbecue.

Skeet also served on the school board and parish council where he was a staunch advocate for families and parishioners. His dedication was not confined to just helping the school, he also devoted himself tirelessly to the broader community.

Skeet was truly one of life’s gentlemen and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Ther St Joseph’s School community extends heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

A celebration of Skeet’s life, including a requiem Mass for the repose of his soul, took place at St Mary of the Angels Church on Friday July 19. Rest in peace Skeet.
