The Sacred Heart Hindmarsh parishioners were married in St Patrick’s Church, Grote Street, on July 27 1963. They received a blessing in the same church at 10.30am Mass on July 30 and celebrated with friends and family at the Marche Club.

Girolamo met Vittoria at her brother’s home when she arrived from Italy. Her brother had mentioned that she was coming to Australia to live and showed Girolamo a photo of her. After arriving in January 1963 she and Girolamo planned to marry in May but Vittoria’s mother died and so they had a small gathering in July.

The Tropeanos have lived at Croydon Park for 57 years and have three children – Josie, Eugenio (Gene) and John – and four grandsons.

Josie Tripodi said her parents’ faith and the Church had always been very important to them.

“That’s what kept them together and has helped them through bad times and good times,” she said, adding they prayed often to St Anthony and “all the other saints”.
