A day after her feast day, St Mary MacKillop was the inspiration for members of the South East Deanery as they gathered in Penola on August 9 as part of the Jubilee Year.
Pilgrims gathered at the Mary MacKillop Interpretive Centre and St Joseph’s Church for prayer, reflection and fellowship.
Led by Mount Gambier parish priest Fr Peter Zwaans, activities ranged from exploring the historic schoolhouse to engaging in talks on the Jubilee Year and the retreat day theme of ‘Providence and Hope’.
The day was also filled with personal prayer, the sacrament of reconciliation, a peaceful rosary walk, eucharistic adoration and a Vigil Mass.
St Joseph’s Church, Penola, is one of the nominated pilgrim churches in the Adelaide Archdiocese for the Jubilee Year.
