The couple first met in 1993 when they were in Reception at the school and ended up dating when they were in Year 7. However, the romance lasted less than a year and the two teenagers went their separate ways.

Just over a decade later the relationship was rekindled after some persistent courting attempts by Matthew.

“We’d spoken on and off again throughout the years, until he worked up the courage to ask me out,” Laura said.

“I declined, twice, until I finally gave in to his cheeky persistence and agreed to have dinner with him. It was 2013, we were 25 at the time and the rest is history.”

They were married at Christ the King Church on March 4 this year and chose to have their wedding photographs taken on the adjacent school grounds.

“St Francis was our home for eight years, not only for Matthew and I, but also our siblings. The school means a lot to all of us.

“Considering it was where we’d met, it was a no-brainer to have our photos taken there. It brought back a lot of happy memories for all of us.”

Laura is the daughter of Denis and Adriana Patriarca and Matthew is the son of John Cavallaro and Rosa Chirico.
