Mr John Neate will take over as chair, following the retirement of Professor Denis Ralph after 11 years of service with the Commission.

Announcing the appointment last month, Archbishop Patrick O’Regan praised the efforts of Professor Ralph.

“Both Catholic Education and the Catholic Church in South Australia have benefited from Professor Ralph’s deep faith and uncompromising commitment to his role, applying his skill and experience, gained over an accomplished career in education,” Archbishop O’Regan said.

“Professor Ralph’s strategic vision and professional acumen, coupled with his political and business connections, have positioned Catholic Education as an educator of choice for families, children and young people in South Australia, as we celebrate unparalleled growth across our system of Catholic schools, centres and offices.”

Mr Neate has a long association with Catholic education in the State, having worked in Catholic schools over the past three decades, which included serving as the principal of Kildare College and Cabra Dominican College and other senior roles within Catholic Education SA.

He has served as a SACCS member since 2016 and is current chair of the Commission’s Learning Wellbeing and Inclusion Standing Committee.

Mr Neate will take over as SACCS chair on May 20.
