Highly respected community leader Dale West is retiring from his position as director of Centacare Catholic Family Services.
Archbishop Patrick O’Regan announced Mr West’s retirement “with sadness” on September 10. However, he will continue in the position until late January.
Archbishop O’Regan commended Mr West for leading the welfare arm of the Adelaide Archdiocese for more than 31 years.
He was appointed by Archbishop Leonard Faulkner as director of the Catholic Welfare Bureau, now known as Centacare.
“I am told there were less than 20 employees back then. In contrast, today Centacare is a quality accredited organisation, providing services to more than 30,000 South Australians each year,” Archbishop O’Regan said in a letter to the Catholic community.
“Dale’s management expertise will be missed by the Archdiocese having also played a significant role for over 15 years in Archbishop’s Office as part of the Leadership Team. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank Dale for his commitment and dedication to the works of Centacare and to the life of the Archdiocese of Adelaide.”
