One of the ‘cooks’ on the day was 25-year-old Era from Malaysia, who has been supported by the Mercy House of Welcome and Circle of Friends since arriving in Adelaide in 2014. The mother of five said she loves cooking and one day hopes to open a restaurant or shop where she can serve her food.

The Multicultural Long Table Lunch held on November 23 was just one of several fundraising events coordinated by YMLSA during the year. The group raised $8000 which has been donated to the housing project run by Sister Denise Coghlan along with the Jesuit Refugees Service in Siem Reap, Cambodia, assisting people impacted by landmines and living with disabilities.

Seven members of YMLSA, coordinator Gaby Kinsman, Sr Meredith Evans RSM and John and Anne Haren are currently taking part in a two-week immersion in Cambodia, the second such program conducted by the group.

Young Mercy Links is an initiative of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea. If you would like to join YMLSA or find out more, contact youngmercylinkssa@ismapng.org.au
