Providing support for women grappling with an unplanned pregnancy and the emotional problems that arise after an abortion were two of the topics discussed at the Guild of St Luke annual conference held on October 19.
About 20 local Catholic health professionals attended the conference which was hosted by Calvary North Adelaide.
Guest speakers included Birthline director Sally Alford and Anne Lastman from Perth, who is a post-abortion grief counsellor. Both women spoke of their personal faith journeys in their work with women experiencing a ‘crisis’ pregnancy, and the healing and emotional problems that occur after an abortion.

“It was a very positive and inspiring to hear their stories and so good to know that there is support and good counselling services available,” said Adelaide gynaecologist and Guild of St Luke member Dr Elvis Šeman.
The conference program also included an update on the Catholic Medical Association of Australia, a national body established last year to give support and a voice to Catholic doctors.
The gathering concluded with a Mass in the Mary Potter Hospice followed by the conference dinner.
