Statement from the Heart
Churches Together SA is hosting two forums on the Uluru Statement from the Heart, Voice – Treaty – Truth, at Adelaide West Uniting Church on February 15.
In the morning session, Professor Aunty Anne Pattel-Gray will give a presentation called ‘The Spirit of God is the Spirit of Truth’ which will explore what it means for the Australian Church to be called by God to be Christ’s ambassadors for reconciliation and peace.
Prof Pattel-Gray is the head of the School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Divinity, Melbourne. She has dedicated her life to the struggle of First Nations people as a strong campaigner and lobbyist seeking justice, equity, and equal representation.
An evening forum and panel with Rev Dr Garry Worete Deverell, a Trawloolway man, will look at the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the referendum from an Aboriginal perspective.
Rev Deverell has worked in parish, agency and academic ministries for the past 25 years and is currently lecturer and research fellow at the School of Indigenous Studies, University of Divinity.
