Long-awaited policy shift brings joy to asylum seekers

When news came through last month of the Federal Government’s new ‘pathway to permanency’ program, amongst the first to rejoice were the many Hazara Afghan refugees who have been separated from their families for more than 10 years.

She’s worked as a zookeeper and on an animal therapy farm, looked after asylum seeker children in community detention and taught English and swimming, but Emma Yengi says providing much-needed help to asylum seekers and refugees living in Adelaide has been her greatest career choice so far.

Vietnamese refugees give back

The generosity of former refugees from South Australia’s Vietnamese community will help refugees and asylum seekers become job ready and obtain employment through a program developed by the Vinnies Refugee and Asylum Seeker Service.
