Oliver Torres Carman and Michael Petruzzella are among 15 new students starting in Reception at Blackfriars Priory School in Term 1.
And while their school journeys are just beginning, the boys are no strangers to Blackfriars. They both attended Blackfriars’ Early Learning Centre and Oliver’s dad Martin Torres and Michael’s mum Krystale Petruzzella work at the school.
Michael says he is most looking forward to “playing with my friends” at school.
“And playing on the oval and basketball,” he says.
Oliver is keen to learn maths and reading.
Mrs Petruzzella, who has been at Blackfriars since 2015 teaching in the primary and secondary schools, says Michael is ready for Reception.
“I have so much faith in Blackfriars, so it’s as easy as it can be, but it still breaks my heart that I am at this stage already,” she says.
“Everyone says that the time goes quickly, but it’s so different when it’s your child. But he’s so ready for school.”
Mr Torres, the school’s ICT Systems manager, agrees.
“I’m excited, but I also can’t believe it. I still see my child as a baby! But OIiver is ready,” says Mr Torres, who has been at Blackfriars since 2011.
Blackfriars head of primary Emma Begg says it is always exciting to welcome new students – and their families – to the school.
“We’re so happy to have our new Reception boys, and other new students in Years 1-6, join us for the first time in 2024,” Ms Begg says.
“We hope they love their time at Blackfriars as much as we will love having them as part of our community.”
