Cardijn College’s Centre of Innovation and Creativity has caught the imagination of judges, receiving a commendation in the SA Architecture Awards presented recently.

The state-of-the-art centre designed by Tridente Boyce and built by Kennett Builders was acknowledged in the Educational Architecture category.

The judging panel said the centre at the Noarlunga Downs school was ‘cleverly planned, with a generous internal street acting as a connector to perimeter spaces and a place for formal and informal interaction’.

‘Built on a constrained site, the centre’s design takes advantage of the slope of the land to create multiple levels and a deliberate blurring between inside and out. Spatial volumes, architectural form and material detailing provide a dynamic learning environment, and clearly identify the Centre as the heart of the college,’ the judges added.

Officially opened in June last year, the centre includes a cafeteria, spiritual retreat, STEM and robotics laboratories, student breakout spaces, a design technology centre, and visual arts, fashion and Year 12 learning areas.
