Book bag a winner

Children attending Immaculate Heart of Mary School’s playgroup have an added incentive to get involved in the ‘Paint the Town REaD’ program which encourages reading at home.
Recently one family involved with the Little Hearts Playgroup donated 20 book bags they had made for the children to use to carry home their books.
“As part of the initiative, children come each week to playgroup with their bags and swap the books over that playgroup provides,” Little Hearts Playgroup director Rachel Belperio explained.
“The book swap has been so successful already and the children were proud to receive their handmade bags.
“The initiative is proving to be a really lovely way to continue building our IHM playgroup through a community of readers and promote reading from an early age.”
The Brompton-based playgroup is one of 60 supported playgroups at Catholic schools around the State that are involved in the program.
