Declan Corby from St Francis Xavier’s Regional Catholic School got to run out on the field with the Crows at the AFL Preliminary Final held in Adelaide. The Year 3 student won a competition run by the Crows Children Foundation and was selected from 500 entries for his dream in being the first amputee to play in the AFL. Declan met the team and coach Don Pyke the day before the game and was interviewed by the media. He was presented with a guernsey by his favourite player Eddie Betts.
HELPING THE HOMELESS: Students from St Augustine’s Parish School at Salisbury got to experience the realities of homelessness first hand when they took part in the Vinnies School Sleepout on Friday September 8. Seventeen students and six teachers participated in the event, raising more than $2100 for the St Vincent De Paul Society and its work with the homeless. Students from Year 3-7 classes at Rosary School have been involved in the Numerical Acumen Challenge – a program aimed at developing fluency, accuracy and speed in basic number facts. It also helps students develop the ability to use their brains as a calculation device and to learn the appropriate time to use a calculator. In the recent Semester One Challenge, 20 students from Rosary School won special awards in improvement, dedication and performance and the school gained first place in the Inspirational School of the Year Award. Year 7 students from St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School at Millicent have been visiting the local radio station 5THE FM 107.7FM on Thursday afternoons to learn about the local radio industry. They participated in their first live show recently where they introduced songs clearly and confidently. This will lead to live interviews in the future.
