Sewing helps women in crisis
Schools
St Patrick’s Technical College Year 11 lifestyle and hospitality students have been sewing quilts for the Northern Domestic Violence Service.
Under the guidance of Sue Rowland, a parent of a StPatsTech Old Scholar, and their teacher Annasofia Hamilton, the students are learning to quilt and also providing an item that will be valued by local women and children in crisis.
This is the third year the students have learnt quilting as part of their citizenship course. This course aims to instil in students a sense of community and encourages generosity of spirit.
Ms Hamilton said it also helped students become more aware of the types of services in the community.
None of the students had sewn before but some said they were now keen to do more quilting.
