Appeal hearing next month
News
The New South Wales District Court will hear an appeal against the conviction of Archbishop Philip Wilson over two days in October.

The appeal was lodged immediately after last month’s sentencing of Archbishop Philip Wilson to a non-parole period of six months’ home detention for failure to report child sexual abuse in the Maitland Newcastle Diocese.
Mr Ian Temby QC indicated to Newcastle magistrate Robert Stone on August 14 that his client would be appealing but would not be applying for bail.
The appeal was mentioned briefly for the first time in Newcastle District Court by Judge Roy Ellis on August 30.
Archbishop Wilson served the Adelaide Archdiocese for 18 years and Wollongong Diocese for four and a half years. He was president of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference from 2006 to 2012.
