Recycling became the focus for the Marathi community based at Brooklyn Park when it decided to raise funds for Caritas Australia during Lent this year. Members collected hundreds of empty water bottles, cans, juice tetra packs and yoghurt bottles, which fetched 10c at a recycle depot. Another member of the group chose to ‘recycle’ items he no longer needed by selling them on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree. It was a successful campaign with more than $400 raised by the community and donated to support the works of Caritas.

Sixty young people from throughout the Archdiocese explored the wonders of Pentecost through art, games and talks at an event hosted by the Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults on June 4. Held at St Mary’s College, the afternoon of activities and workshops featured guest speakers Juliana Kittel, who spoke of the spiritual gifts in youth ministry, Leah Ashman’s prayer art and the Via Lucis (Stations of the Resurrection) which was facilitated by Lauren Bierer. Father Anthony Beltrame also led a spiritual conversation about Pentecost. To conclude the event, Archbishop Patrick O’Regan took part in the praise and worship session that gave participants the opportunity to share their experiences from the day.
