About 400 people attended the evening Mass for St Thomas the Apostle on Friday July 4 which was celebrated by the Archbishop of Adelaide Patrick O’Regan along with nine concelebrants.
The 90-minute service included a cultural blessing – an aarathi – near the start of the Mass and a children’s blessing by the Archbishop which brought about 100 children to the altar.
A record six choirs – from the Syro Malabar, Marathi, Tamil, Malankara, Konkani and Punjabi communities – brought a great variety of music given their origins from around India.
The exuberance was matched afterwards with savoury and sweet food served in a packed Cathedral Hall.
